Nottingham City Centre Demolition prepares the way for Unity Square

Unity Square, Nottingham

A multi-storey car park and shops have been demolished opposite Nottingham Railway Station, to make way for extensive redevelopment in a key city location.

The Unity Square site currently has outline planning consent for up to 450,000 sq ft of Grade A office accommodation, a new hotel alongside other retail and leisure outlets surrounding brand new public realm. FPCR has provided landscape design services for the proposed scheme, and undertaken ecological surveys at the site.

The proposed high quality public realm is focussed on a podium plaza, abutting the 3 proposed buildings, comprising raised planters, a grid of multi-stemmed birch trees, integrated seating and a ‘lighting forest’. This will be connected to the front of the railway station by a wide pedestrian route, emphasised by a strong ‘bar-code’ paving pattern, that echoes the metal ‘fins’ on the building elevations.
