CPD with the Landscape Institute

Four members of the Landscape team from FPCR attended the Landscape Institute CPD day ‘The Human Element’ in Birmingham on Wednesday 9th October. The event was organised by the LI and included a full day of workshops from external speakers focussing on the ‘soft skills’ of business.

The day was opened by Jane Findlay, President Elect of The Landscape Institute and began with an opening talk by Shireen Chambers, Executive Director of The Institute of Chartered Foresters, on ‘Becoming a Landscape Leader’.  Throughout the day, numerous sessions were held on subjects including setting customer standards, developing human-centred marketing strategies and brand toolkits, stakeholder engagement, the power of social media and gender equality.

The day ended with a joint presentation from Diana Crouch of Crouch Consulting and Bola Abisogun OBE and CEO of UrbanIS who discussed issues relating to inclusion and diversity within the profession.

The last presentation of the day was by our Senior Landscape Architect Jane Fortescue, along with LI CEO Dan Cook, to launch Rainbow Places; the Landscape Institutes new LGBTQ+ network. Rainbow Places promotes LGBT+ diversity and inclusion within the LI’s members and practices but also in the wider construction industry.

At the end of a very full day, the FPCR team came away with some useful tools and a lot to think about!
