At the beginning of the year three of our Arb team set themselves a challenge to complete two Olympic distance triathlons to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. This weekend they completed their challenge having raised nearly £1000 with great relief that it was over but also a great sense of achievement.
Callum, Ed and Nick had no previous experience with triathlons and in fact hadn’t done much swimming since school and didn’t even own a road bike. An Olympic distance triathlon is a 1.5km of swim, 40km on the bike followed by a 10km of run, each on their own seemed daunting at the beginning of the year let alone combining them into one race.
The first triathlon was the Peak District Triathlon which was a great mass event with a thousand competitors all gathering at Chatsworth House and was a great introduction to the distance. Their second event was the Buttermere Triathlon, a low key affair but which was much more gruelling over a longer overall distance and with much more climb (over 1000m of ascent) being as it is in the Lake District.
Callum, Ed and Nick would like to thank all of those that supported their challenge and helped raise money for the British Heart Foundation. If anyone else would like to add to their fund please click on the link below which takes you to their JustGiving page.
