Our FPCR after-work caving team visited a large cave site on the hillside above Matlock this week and undertook a bat hibernation survey for Derbyshire Bat Group.

A total of 24 hibernating bats were counted of 4 species or species-groups including a cluster of 5 hibernating whiskered/Brandt’s bats shown in the photo above. This is the highest number of hibernating bats counted at this site in recent times.
