Bio Bank Project Wins Landscape Institute Award

FPCR is delighted to announce that its Red House Farm Biodiversity Bank project, delivered in partnership with City of Doncaster Council, has won a Landscape Institute Yorkshire & Humberside (LIYH) Award.

The project was recognised in the Biodiversity & Ecology category, reflecting its contribution to delivering meaningful, landscape-led biodiversity enhancement at scale.

Having been shortlisted earlier this year, the award marks an important milestone for the project team and partners, and reinforces the role of integrated landscape and ecological design in addressing the biodiversity crisis.

Delivering biodiversity at scale
Red House Farm Biodiversity Bank demonstrates a strategic approach to habitat creation and long-term management, supporting the delivery of biodiversity net gain while contributing to wider ecological networks across Doncaster and beyond.

A key aspect of FPCR’s landscape approach was balancing the creation of a high-performing habitat bank with the site’s location next to a popular woodland and walking destination. The scheme was carefully designed to allow controlled public access, aligning with the Landscape Institute’s “people, place, nature” principles.

The masterplan introduces interest and intrigue within the landscape to encourage visitors to remain on designated routes, reducing pressure on more sensitive areas and allowing space for nature to thrive undisturbed. Alongside this, innovative, low-carbon planting techniques developed in collaboration with City of Doncaster Council ecologists helped establish resilient, locally appropriate habitats, further strengthening the project’s impact.

The project brings together landscape planning and ecological expertise from the outset, ensuring biodiversity is embedded as a core driver of the scheme. In doing so, it provides a model for how development can deliver lasting environmental value alongside policy requirements.

Industry recognition
The Landscape Institute Yorkshire & Humberside Awards celebrate projects that deliver high-quality outcomes for people, place and nature. This year’s awards brought together professionals from across the region to recognise excellence in landscape practice.

A collaborative achievement
The success of Red House Farm Biobank reflects a strong collaborative effort between FPCR, City of Doncaster Council and the wider project team.

Simon Lawton, Director of Landscape at FPCR, said: “This was a fantastic result for the team and a really positive recognition of the work that has gone into Red House Farm. The project shows what can be achieved through close collaboration and a shared ambition to deliver biodiversity in a meaningful, long-term way. We’re incredibly proud to have been part of it.”
