Paul began his career in environmental and ecological consultancy in 2004 and has worked throughout the UK (as well as experience in Ireland and the EU), across a range of disciplines and project sectors, including residential, commercial, mixed use, and industrial developments, as well as leading ecological assessments for large scale and nationally significant infrastructure projects. Paul has experience across the environmental section including environmental investigation for contaminated land and water, environmental auditing for due diligence and compliance, and coordinating Environmental Impact Assessments as well as specialising in Ecological survey and assessment.

Paul has experience of managing projects with a focus on pragmatic problem solving. Having a broad range of industry experience, he has a broad understanding of ecological and environmental legislation and planning requirements and is particularly adept at working on multi-disciplinary projects requiring liaison and negotiation with a range of technical specialists, third party contractors, stakeholders, and regulators such as Natural England and Local Authorities. Paul’s main interests lie in ecological impact assessment and mitigation, and he has in depth experience of designing and implementing mitigation for large scale infrastructure projects such as HS2, including extensive experience of designing targeted mitigation for great crested newts.

Paul’s ecological project experience includes ecological survey methods, Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA), Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA), protected species assessments, management plans, mitigation design, authoring and coordinating chapters for Environmental Statements, biodiversity net gain assessments, Construction Environmental Management Plans, Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) and supervision of contractors.

Paul is an experienced ecological surveyor with field skills in botanical identification and habitat assessment (holding a level 4 FISC), hedgerow survey, and targeted protected species surveys including bats and other mammals, amphibians, reptiles, and holds a great crested newt survey license
