Our Architecture team enjoyed a CPD trip to Cambridge visiting some award-winning residential schemes in the city.
They first enjoyed a tour around Marmalade Lane, a co-housing scheme with community collaboration and resident well-being at its heart. The site is part of the wider Orchard Park development in the north of the city. Marmalade Lane comprises of a mixture of apartments and townhouses along with a multitude of community benefits such as a large shared garden, a common house and a central car-free lane. After speaking at length with one of the residents there, it’s clear what a huge impact community collaboration can have on resident satisfaction.
Then heading to Eddington, an entirely new community on the outskirts of Cambridge which is currently being constructed in collaboration with the University of Cambridge. The team particularly enjoyed the level of detail that had gone into the design of the spaces between buildings which encompassed public squares with retail spaces, semi-private courtyards, urban swales and the use of hard landscaping to name a few.
Our Architecture team left feeling super inspired and with lots of ideas to implement in their own projects!
