Tom Bennett Gains Level 4 Bat Licence

Tom shows trainee bat workers how to look at various biometric features to identify bats to species level

Arboricultural consultant Tom Bennett has just gained his level 4 bat survey class licence from Natural England. As well as being part of our arboriculture team, Tom is heavily involved with bat conservation in his local bat groups and has gained a lot of experience in the last few years. The level 4 licence means as well as being able to undertake tree feature inspections for roosting bats using an endoscope, he is also able to assist the advanced bat survey team with trapping surveys using harp traps and acoustic lures. The video below shows Tom on a recent survey with Derbyshire Bat Conservation Group releasing a brown long-eared bat after it was trapped as part of a scientific study in the Peak District.
