FPCR were commissioned to prepare designs for the comprehensive enhancement of The Spot area within the St Peters Quarter area of Derby City Centre, to regenerate the space and improve accessibility by working in partnership with various stakeholders, businesses, investors and residents. FPCR delivered concept and outline design proposals for the public realm area at The Spot. The scheme forms part of the wider City Centre Regeneration Framework.

FPCR were involved in running a design competition to appoint an artist to design the focal sculpture. We then worked closely with the artist and engineers to develop the concept design.

The initial designs prepared by FPCR have since been developed into detailed proposals by Derby City Council, and the £1.26 million scheme has now been implemented.

The revamped area of public realm comprises a 30-metre bench engraved with a timeline of Derby’s history and a steel rings sculpture, 7 metres in diameter, as well as paving and tree planting.
