FPCR Visits upgraded Willesley Wood tracks

Willesley Wood is set near Ashby-de-la-Zouch, in the Heart of National Forest. The Woodland Trust site is made up of maturing woodland, flower meadows and wetlands; and is a popular location for gentle strolls, family picnics and birdwatching around the reed-fringed Thortit Lake.

The 57ha woodland includes circa 8km of managed footpaths. FPCR’s involvement included the upgrade of a 3km circular surfaced path around the lake as well as upgrading features such as bridges, gates and benches. FPCR were appointed to produce design proposals, oversee tendering and to manage the implementation of works on site. FPCR’s Ecology and Arboriculture teams were also involved in the process throughout providing written assessments and site inspections.

Part of the design challenge was to make this part of the woodland accessible to all-abilities. Detailed features include wheelchair friendly kissing gates and an accessible entrance ramp.
