FCPR’s Ecology Team shortlisted at Pro Landscaper Sustainability Awards 2026

We’re delighted to announce that FPCR has been shortlisted in the Ecology Team category at the Pro Landscaper Sustainability & Biodiversity Awards 2026.

The awards celebrate the people, practices and projects making a significant contribution to sustainability and biodiversity across the landscape sector, with the Ecology Team category recognising organisations delivering innovative ecological solutions, habitat management, species conservation, and measurable environmental benefits.

The recognition reflects the breadth of expertise within FPCR’s Ecology team and its contribution to delivering positive outcomes for nature across projects throughout the UK.

Our ecologists work across the full project lifecycle, from initial site appraisal, protected species surveys and licensing through to Ecological Impact Assessment, Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), habitat creation, and long-term habitat management and monitoring.

Helping shape ecological practice

FPCR has been at the forefront of BNG since before it become mandatory. Members of the team have contributed to the development of the statutory biodiversity metric and supporting tools, while our work now extends from baseline assessment and metric strategy to habitat banking, off-site unit procurement and the 30-year management and monitoring needed to ensure biodiversity net gains are delivered in practice.

Sam Arthur, Senior Director (Ecology), has worked on the BNG since the original Defra pilot in 2012 and is named as a co-author of Natural England’s Biodiversity Metric 2.0 Calculation Tool. FPCR has subsequently worked with Natural England on the Small Sites Metric, Metric GIS tools, and the national Habitat Management and Monitoring Plan template.

Innovation continues across the team, including the use of drones, thermal imaging, digital field data collection and emerging survey techniques, alongside work to develop approaches where established solutions do not yet exist.

The shortlist also recognises the people behind our work. FPCR place a strong emphasis on developing industrial and technical expertise and sharing knowledge across the profession. In June this year, 80 colleagues took part in a four-day Botany and Habitat Surveying course designed and delivered by our own senior botanists. Of 54 practice-wide promotions announced in May, 29 were within Ecology, spanning Ecologist through to director level.

Our ecologists also contribute their expertise beyond FPCR through university teaching, professional conferences, CPD, conservation organisations and local wildlife groups, whilst our annual graduate ecology day/s provides/provide opportunities for people beginning their careers in the profession.

As part of FPCR’s integrated practice, the Ecology team works alongside landscape architects, arboriculturists, architects, and masterplanners, allowing environment considerations to influence projects from the earliest stages and remain embedded through design, implementation and long-term management.

Winners of the Pro Landscape Sustainability & Environmental Awards will be announced during the awards ceremony taking place at Farnborough International Exhibition and Conference Centre on Tuesday 13 October.
