Bernard the Hedgehog Visits FPCR

This week is Hedgehog Awareness Week, an annual event promoted by the British Hedgehog Preservation Society (BHPS) in order to; quite simply, raise awareness and money for hedgehogs that, in recent years, have been on the decline.

In light of this, one of our Graphic Designers brought his pet hedgehog, Bernard the African Pygmy hedgehog, into our Lockington Hall offices for a meet and greet with voluntary donations to contribute towards the protection and preservation of the hedgehog species.

The State of Britain’s Hedgehogs 2011 was the first attempt to comprehensively review the status of hedgehogs nationally. All of the five surveys analysed in the report, comprising data collected between 1996 and 2010, showed declines, four at a statistically significant level. That analysis concluded, ‘at a conservative estimate a quarter of the population [had] been lost’ in the first decade of this century.

All in all it was one of our more unusual lunch breaks, but there were smiles all round.
