November 2009 - Lichfield City Centre Scheme receives commendation at Design Awards
The Lichfield City Centre Paving Scheme, designed and project managed by FPCR, received a Commendation at the 2009 Southern Staffordshire Partnership Design Awards.

32 schemes were entered in the awards, of which 4 received commendations.

The scheme drew special praise for the restrained and sensitive design approach employed which sets off the surrounding historic architecture.

The Market Square provides the focal point of the scheme, which also incorporates five surrounding streets forming the main pedestrian corridor through the heart of the city centre. The paving scheme utilises high quality natural stone paving to create a pedestrian dominated layout by reducing carriageway widths and installing low kerbs. Pop-up power units recessed into the Market Square are part of the improved facilities for stallholders, while new traffic signage, trees and street furniture create a fresh look for the square.
