July 2009 - Takeoff for new Play Area at Whisby Nature Park
The works to create a interactive and educational play area at Whisby Nature Park are well underway and due to be complete by the beginning of August 2009 when the ‘Little Darters Wildlife Adventure Area’ will open to the public. Two 9 metre high pyramid towers which will form the centre-piece of the play area have been lifted into position beside the edge of the lake.

FPCR won a design competition run by North Kesteven District Council to create a play area which was fun, engaging and educated users on the wildlife found in the Nature Reserve.

In addition to the timber climbing towers, other focal points of the scheme include a floating pontoon which provides access to an island, an aerial walkway linking the towers and the Natural World Centre café with the rest of the play area, and a sunken cave with Perspex dome allowing users to imitate burrowing animals.

The project which has partly funded by the DSCF’s ‘Playbuilder’ scheme has been designed and project-managed by FPCR and will have cost an estimated £400,000 by the time it is completed.
