| The existing Town Plan allocated this former tip site and military base as open space and housing. FPCR provided a masterplan for the site in 2008 to promote a mixed use development for Waystone Ltd. Local constraints helped to form the masterplan development including an existing BMX course that was retained & upgraded within a new central park. Town Houses Apartments front the park to reflect the existing character of the historical spa to the north with smaller scale behind, reducing visual impact from the surrounding countryside and tying into the adjacent settlements. Footpath links into the forest & the wider well used network and an Iconic Leisure building is proposed as a focal point on the site of the former athletics track. This organic shaped building with wood materials to reflect the surrounding forest will be the 'fulcrum' of the scheme, and provides a focal point at the end of the proposed park. |
