THE WOLSELEY CENTRE
The new offices and visitor centre for the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust involved the renovation of existing farm and stable buildings within the grounds of a former Country House. The building provides office space, seminar rooms, workshops, a resource centre and an education suite set around a central cloistered courtyard.
An innovative, low-tech, and sustainable solution was developed by the practice in response to a wide variety of environmental, historical and practical issues. It incorporates the latest techniques for energy efficiency with a minimal environmental impact, including the use of low embodied energy materials and recycled materials as well as utilising a reed bed and filtration system. The contract value was £950,000.
