Reclamation and redevelopment of 136 hectare derelict colliery and coke works within the urban area for a range of industrial, commercial, leisure, residential and conservation uses in a joint venture with English Partnerships/Yorkshire Forward. The scheme is well advanced, with contaminated land having been cleared and contained within underground cells on site. Mixed use development was seen as essential by local residents, bringing investment and jobs into the area. A Freeport Factory Retail Village has opened along with the 'XSCAPE' leisure complex. Further sites are being prepared for inward investment and employment opportunities
